Imani is a treatment center, located in Wynberg, Cape Town, that treats individuals with eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, and more. They offer both inpatient and outpatient care. Their inpatient programme is a highly structured program where individuals will eat main meals and snacks at the same time each day under the care and support of a counsellor or recovery assistant. Patients will attend individual and group therapy sessions along with participating in diverse holistic treatments and movement/exercise. In addition, the programme includes dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), art therapy, yoga, 12-Step fellowships, and eating disorder support groups. Imani values family involvement and strives to keep family members involved during the treatment process. Family members can participate in visitations, therapeutic family meals, and family therapy sessions. Before leaving the programme, all patients will undergo comprehensive relapse prevention counselling. This center approaches eating disorder treatment and recovery holistically. Imani considers an individual’s psychological, physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional state and offers various holistic therapies throughout treatment. These include: Biodanza- A type of dance therapy that uses music, dance, and interaction to encourage self-expression and self-management.Tension and Trauma Release Exercises- A specific set of movements to help restore homeostasis.Schema Therapy- A type of talk therapy where individuals identify patterns of negative/dysfunctional thoughts and feelings and replaces them with balanced ones. Imani offers reintegration care, which focuses on helping patients continue healing when they resume their daily lives outside of the center. Staff will work with individuals on relapse prevention plans and offer outpatient counselling, support groups, and aftercare check-ins.
