Ellenhorn provides mental health care and substance abuse treatment, treating individuals in their homes and community. The core treatment at Ellenhorn assists clients in achieving their objectives and returning to their preferred educational or career path. The majority of Ellenhorn's clients are treated while living in the community, with a small percentage remaining in one of their residential facilities. The staff-to-client ratio at Ellenhorn is 1:2. The psychiatrist keeps a limited caseload on purpose in order to establish a "hospital without walls." Ellenhorn is able to treat people with intense outpatient, residential, or even hospital treatment programs while they live and engage in the community because of this strategy. The staff is well versed in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). “Ellenhorn’s time-tested and evidence-based treatment model, called the Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT), is endorsed by both the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), as the prime model for both psychiatric and psychosocial recovery.” Ellenhorns offers 2 residential, home-like settings in Arlington, Massachusetts. Formerly a bed and breakfast, the home offers a non-institutional setting, with home-cooked organic meals. Close by the main facility are apartments provided by Ellenhorn. Clients can also participate in the wellness program which includes acupuncture, massage, yoga, aromatherapy, and more.
